Food allergies

tips for disney world & food allergies

our allergies and sensitivities

THE WHY

THE WHEN

THE HOW

THE WHY

Listen, traveling with food allergies can be scary. Trust me, I get it! My daughter has a severe, life threatening peanut allergy and I am Celiac. Though mine isn't life threatening, or technically an allergy, it can be life altering if a mistake is made. A major reason we travel to Disney so much is because they are so incredibly accommodating with food allergies and sensitivities! They can handle it all. I have been with my little family before with 2 allergies and sensitivities, and I have dined with a large group with several different allergies per person. Just know, you will ALWAYS be taken care of and taken very seriously!

At Disney, we dine so freely and deliciously!

Disney Cruise Line will also take care of you!

THE WHEN

Quick Service

So the only negative about the quick service food ordering process for food allergies, is it takes significantly longer to get your food. I would plan an extra 20 minutes onto your food stop to be safe. Knowing this upfront will save a lot of frustration but just remember, they are taking their time to make sure your food is safe!

When you are dining at a sit down table service meal, it will be notated in your reservation, they will ask you at check in about food allergies and your server will be notified. No extra time needs to be accounted for during sit down dining experiences.

THE HOW

When physically ordering at a quick service location

  • notify the cashier when placing the order that you have an allergy and you would like to speak with a coordinator (they will automatically call one anyways).
  • they will hand you a special allergen menu to look over while you wait. They usually come out pretty quickly.
  • the coordinator will speak with you about your allergy, go over the menu and any necessary modifications.
  • they then place your order and the cashier will give you a receipt that they stamp ALLERGY onto.
  • the coordinator goes into the back and safely prepares your food while you take your receipt up to the food counter to wait on your order. This is the part that can take a long while.
  • your order will come out via the same coordinator on a specially colored tray (normally green) and have an allergy pic in the food. Always double check with them that they prepared the order according to your allergy.

When mobile ordering food
  • allow extra time for this as well
  • note that you won't speak with anyone about your allergy so make sure you're comfortable with that.
  • In the MDE app, you will see a ALLERGY FRIENDLY options menu
  • when you click here, you can search by common allergen or sensitivity
  • if you have multiple allergies you'll need to cross reference both separate menus
  • your app will notify you when and where to pickup at the selected food location
  • your food should be properly and clearly labeled with your allergen

Ordering at Table Service meals
  • you will order off of the special allergen menu
  • all food will come out with allergy picks in them to notate what is safe for you
  • at family style meals, anything that is allergen friendly will come out with allergen picks and served to the entire table-make sure you serve yourself first but if this makes you uncomfortable, just ask for more of that particular item for yourself
  • don't see anything on the menu that you or your little one will like? Speak to a chef! They are extremely accommodating and can usually whip something up-off menu
When ordering from Disney vendor food carts
  • ask to see allergen binder! This will spell out all of the ingredients and notate risks of cross contamination
  • DO NOT assume that since you got a peanut safe Mickey pretzel from a cart in Hollywood Studios that the same Mickey pretzel will be safe from a food cart on Disney's Boardwalk. You need to verify the facility the items are prepped in for cross contamination risks!
